About Me

Hello! My name is Ms. Riley, and I have been teaching at Queens since the 2007/2008 school year. I have a degree in Elementary Education from St. Xavier University and additional courses in Early Childhood Education from Dominican University and Kendall College. I have academic endorsements in Elementary Education, Language Arts, and Social Studies.

My favorite part about teaching 2nd grade is helping children grow as readers and writers. A strong foundation in Reading and Writing will help students achieve great educational success in all subject areas, both during their school years and beyond. This year we will work on building reading stamina, fluency, and comprehension. In 2nd grade, we also put a strong emphasis on Math understanding. One of the best parts about the Math program at Queens is ST Math, an online program where students get to see math represented visually as they guide their virtual penguin through game levels. Each game level helps students use math strategies to strengthen and build their math knowledge. As with all lessons at Queen of the Universe, our Catholic Faith guides us as we continue to learn, grow, and develop our skills as lifelong learners following Christ.

Remember to fill in Reading Logs each evening! Reading out loud every night helps children build reading fluency and stamina, which will help them be successful students. Happy Reading!
